Project Linus President Carol Babbitt received the following letter via email. Our deepest thanks go to Anna and her parents for sharing their story. My daughter Anna is 3 1/2. On May 10th she went to Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN to undergo 5 hours of surgery on three of her limbs. Anna has a trach so she was sent to the PICU after surgery. I stayed with her until late evening, and then tried to catch some sleep in the parent’s lounge. At 5 a.m. when I returned to the PICU, I noticed Anna resting comfortably under a beautiful handmade quilt. I asked the nurses where the quilt had come from and they told me volunteers donate them to the hospital. Attached to one corner was a Project Linus tag. On Saturday, Anna came home. She has long casts on both legs and a soft cast on her upper arm covering three different surgical procedures. As we placed her in her bed, we tried to cover her with her favorite ‘blankie’ from home. Anna is nonverbal because of the trach, but she shook her head ‘no’ and reached for the hospital quilt with her one good arm. She has been sleeping under the quilt ever since. We have taken several pictures of Anna and her quilt. We would love to share them with your project so your volunteers know the difference they have made in the life of our child. Anna has been hospitalized numerous times since her premature birth, but this stay was made special by receipt of this very beautiful quilt. Thank you.
