Project Linus Blanket Buzz
Jan 25, 2005

Mary Balagna, Coordinator of the central Illinois chapter of Project Linus, reports on a heartfelt gift grade schoolers gave their classmate:

Ellen Speer orchestrated a Project Linus quilting bee with students at St. Anthony’s Grade School in Effingham Illinois. The sixth graders were able to see their blanket touch the heart of a child when they gave their gift to Leigh, a classmate who had developed leukemia. Leigh spent the end of the school year at the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, and the students hope that the quilt has been some comfort to her.

“It made the kids feel like they were doing something for Leigh when they were able to give her such a precious gift, made with love from her friends at school. I was proud to be part of this project and thank you for coming to Effingham and sharing your experiences and dedication to Project Linus. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of working with your organization.”

“This is truly what Project Linus is all about,” writes Mary, “offering a hug of comfort and security to a child in need, through the gift of a blanket.”
